Dental X-Rays in Children are Important

Check out our new X-Ray machine! No more uncomfortable bitewings or awkward positions. Now we can capture your child’s entire mouth in a single image. This includes the teeth, upper and lower jaws, surrounding structures and tissues.

To make sure the machine worked well enough for our pediatric dental patients, Dr. Chambliss tested it on one of his sons! (pictured above).

X-rays are a necessary component of a child’s dental care and are only taken when required. The new machine at Medplex captures the entire mouth in a single image – the teeth, upper and lower jaws, surrounding structures and tissues.

According to the American Dental Association, Dental X-rays are invisible beams of energy that pass through the body to make black and white pictures of your child’s teeth and bones. The level of radiation is very safe. Daily, you experience natural radiation exuded from soil, the sun, rocks, and other elements.

Radiation Exposure

To ensure your child is exposed to the lowest level of radiation possible, Pediatric Dental Associates only:

  • Takes X-ray pictures based on your child’s needs and not as a routine test.
  • Uses the latest type of X-ray technology to ensure clearer pictures and less radiation.
  • Limits the time your child is exposed and keeps its machine separate from other patients.
  • Provides a thyroid collar to add extra protection from exposure.
