Sugar is available to provide sweet reassurance to our patients. She greets patients as they walk to the operatory. She is also available to sit with patients in the chair as we perform procedures. Sugar’s calming presence has been a blessing for our patients. Most of all, she relieves stress about having a pediatric dental appointment.
We know it can be a struggle to persuade your child to come to our office. We’ve found that children now look forward to their appointments for the chance to see and play with Sugar. She will even take a picture with your child in front of our red carpet backdrop!
Comfort of Dogs and Pets
Dogs like Sugar are trained to provide affection, comfort, love, and ease anxiety. They emphasize the human and dog connection. Love and support from dogs are shown to reduce heart rates and ease anxiety. Finally, in a 2002 study at State University of New York at Buffalo, researchers found that when conducting a stressful task, people experienced less stress when their pets were with them than when a spouse, family member or close friend was nearby.
